Google Translate, DeePL, Leo, Linguee… avons-nous besoin de ces applications et que nous rapportent-elles? Le thème du numérique et de l’acquisition du vocabulaire est au centre d’un projet de recherche du Centre scientifique de compétence sur le Plurilinguisme (Fribourg). Il vise à comprendre si les outils digitaux peuvent faciliter l’apprentissage du vocabulaire auprès de jeunes apprenti·e·s. Rencontre avec Isabelle Udry, cheffe de projet, qui apporte son éclairage sur les défis du numérique pour l’école et pour la recherche.
Mit dem Aufkommen des Internets ist die Anzahl der Apps und Softwares, welche mehrsprachige Kommunikation erleichtern sollen, geradezu explodiert. Neben maschinellen Übersetzern gibt es viele andere Online-Ressourcen, wie z.B. Videospiele und soziale Medien. Diese technologischen Entwicklungen haben auch Auswirkungen auf das Fremdsprachenlernen, insbesondere auf den Wortschatzerwerb. In diesem Podcast diskutiert Isabelle Udry über die Möglichkeiten und Grenzen digitaler Hilfsmittel im Fremdsprachenunterricht. Dabei geht sie auf Forschungsergebnisse ein und blickt auf ihre Erfahrung als Primarlehrerin zurück. Das Thema beschäftigt Lehrkräfte, Studierende und DidaktikerInnen gleichermassen und erregt dabei zuweilen Skepsis und Bewunderung. Auch die Sprachlehr- und -lernforschung nimmt die Digitalisierung gerne genauer in den Blick.

Have you ever wondered how much vocabulary your students truly need to communicate effectively in a foreign language? Or whether there are ways to teach vocabulary other than simply having students memorize lists of words? Building lexical know ledge is a crucial part of language learning, which is why it’s important to understand how vocabulary is learned and retained.
This handout addresses key aspects of vocabulary instruction. Each section starts with a basic question, then offers ideas for selecting the right words, presenting them in context, and giving students the tools they need to actively use and retain the targeted vocabulary.
